Two Dutch nationals on Monday donated two cartons of tracksuits, shorts, shirts and towels to the Gambia Athletics Association (GAA) at a presentation ceremony held at the association’s head office at the Independence Stadium in Bakau.

Coby Dijksma and Ank Bosselaar made the donation through Boca Loho Foundation.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Dodou ‘Capi’ Joof, president of the GAA, said they were thankful and grateful to the donors for the “kind gesture”.

Capi, as he is affectionately called, described the donation as timely, saying “there is no donation that is small” to them.

“I hope the relationship will continue to go from strength to strength,” he said.

He prayed for the donors and their families to have good health so that they could continue their good work for humanity and in helping the Gambian people.

Capi also highlighted the numerous successes registered by Gambian athletes in various international competitions, saying The Gambia has the best junior athletes in Africa.

Coby Dijksma said the donation to the GAA is a fulfilment of the promise she made at her last visit to The Gambia three years ago.

Ms Dijksma stated that they collected the materials from marathon runners in Holland to help the GAA.

She encouraged the Gambian athletes to take up marathon running seriously.

Ank Bosselaar, who also spoke at the presentation ceremony, said they are trying to help Gambians in whatever way they can as well as in areas such as  health, education and agriculture.

She added that they would travel to the North Bank Region at the weekend to see some forest projects, where they intend to plant some trees.
