The Agribusiness Services and Producers Association (ASPA) has announced that the farm-gate groundnut producer price for the 2011-2012 groundnut marketing season is pegged at D9, 300 per metric tonne.

Noting that the season will close on 15th March, ASPA urged all cooperative produce marketing societies, private traders and any agent wishing to participate in the groundnut buying at primary (secco) level to prepare their equipment and clean their seccos accordingly.
“Groundnut producers are hereby assured that this year’s producer price was arrived at using the officially recognized producer price determination mechanism, which takes into account the world market prices for groundnut products as well as parameters and ratios relevant to the domestic marketing system,” the statement said.
According to ASPA, this year’s price compares quite favorably with what pertains in the sub-region. It further urged farmers to sell their produce through the existing marketing outlets.
