The Gambia Livestock Marketing Agency (GLMA) Friday convened a day-long consultative meeting with various stakeholders from the security, butchers, dealers, middle-men, consumers, local government authority, government officials and consumers.
The purpose of the meeting, held at GLMA premise in Abuko, was to bring various institutions’ representatives to a consultative forum, to discuss the price of meat ahead of the Ramadan, and how to make it affordable, and accessible to the less-privileged in the society.
Speaking after the meeting, the Director General GLMA, Dr Demba Jallow, said this was an annual dialogue usually held to discuss the issue of meat, livestock, marketing and other constraints and map out the way forward.
Ramadan is coming, and it was learned that some butchers wanted to increase the price of meat. The agency has now decided to conduct a consultative forum to discuss with the stakeholders to ensure that prices do not unnecessarily increase because of the Ramadan.
