Gikiba FC on Sunday were crowned champions after defeating
ELF United 5-3 in a penalty shot out at the Abuko football field. The
tournament, which was organised by Abuko Youth Sports Development Committee,
was to encourage the young people in the game of football.
The sponsor, Mr. Peter Evan said, " the purpose of the tournament is to encourage the youths in the game of football." He said that he and his friends will help to develop the game of football in The Gambia. He further said that there is an academy of football that is already in Abuko that will help young talented players to develop in the game.
"And we will help these young people to develop that academy" he stated.
The sponsor, Mr. Peter Evan said, " the purpose of the tournament is to encourage the youths in the game of football." He said that he and his friends will help to develop the game of football in The Gambia. He further said that there is an academy of football that is already in Abuko that will help young talented players to develop in the game.
"And we will help these young people to develop that academy" he stated.
The winner was awarded a giant trophy and a cash prize of D2,000 and the runners up went home with D1,000.
Democracy were awarded the prize for the most disciplined team with a cash prize of D500.
The final was attended by Peter Evans and friends, youth mobilizer Modou Picka Jallow, Gibril Bah and Mrs. Anty Sally Sidibeh Susso Councilor for Abuko. The kick off was made by William Evan the son of Peter.
