Reliable sources yesterday informed this paper that Mr. Lamin Sanyang, the Managing Director of Gambia International Airlines, was sacked yesterday from his post. At the time of going to press, no official reason was advanced to this paper as to the reason(s) for Mr. Sanyang's removal.

Meanwhile, according to our source, Mr. Bakary Nyassi, the current Director of Operations GIA, has been appointed to replace Mr. Sanyang, who is said to have been seen in the company of state security personnel shortly before close of work.

Mr. Sanyang was appointed as Managing Director of the national Airlines in late 2005, elevated from the position of Director of Finance in which he served for a number of years under successive heads.

Latest reports on GIA, a company that was sometime in 2007 placed under a five-year Management Contract to one Jacques Zghinou, speak of a staggering pre-tax loss of D84M while the said Management Contactor, Mr. Zghinou, is said to have been out of the country for some time now. However it is not clear as to whether Mr. Sanyang's removal is in any way connected to the reported losses.
