FVH, a Swiss charity that recently renovated the entire school building including the kitchen and the toilet block of Ghana Town Nursery School, last weekend donated more furniture to the school.

The furniture were donated to the school through the FVH representative in The Gambia, Ms Joy Sara Buchanan. The items included tables and benches for150 children, teacher desks and chairs, and cupboards for classrooms and stores.

During the presentation, one Adama Mendy was praised for her role in making the donation possible.

For her part, Ms Joy Buchanan, who coordinated the support, also spoke on the school’s garden space. She said: "The importance of garden cannot be overemphasised; a portion of land, which has been neglected for years and even misused as dumping ground, is now transformed into a biotype that serves to attract birds, butterflies, insects and other local fauna, as well as yields produce for consumption."

Preserving the environment and biological community is paramount. "The FVH president visit would culminate with the inauguration of the school, and the visit will give her the opportunity to asses any outstanding needs of the school," she said.
