Ghana Eliminates Gambia U20 in African Youth Championship

The Gambia U-20 Scorpion team were last Sunday eliminated by Ghana's U-20 team in the African Youth Championship qualifiers after a 1-0 defeat at the Independence Stadium in Bakau on Sunday.

It could be recalled that during the first leg in Accra, Ghana won by 2-1. All what the darling Scorpions needed was to win the match but during the first half of the match Gambian strikers missed lot of golden opportunities. Several attempts were made to win the game but the Ghanaian players prevented them from scoring.

Abdoulie Ken Mansally and Sainey Nyassi made several efforts to save the Gambia but luck was not on their side; however the Ghanaian players were hungry for goals likewise their Gambian counterparts but in the 85thminutes of the second halfAbeiku Quansahscored for Ghana whichdashed The Gambia's qualification hope for the African youth championship in Rwanda.

Immediately after the match most of the Gambian fans, who spoke to Point Sports expressed disappointment with Lamin Sarr in the way he handled the game.

Despite the fact that the senior Scorpion did not qualify for both the World Cup and the Nations Cup the Gambian fans praised both the coach and players for their untiring efforts to make the Gambia qualify.

Now the final hope of the country's football entirely lies with the darling U17 team. They are expected to play Ghana in November and the first leg will be play in Ghana.
