The 2012 Gambia Football Association (GFA) Super Nawetan fondly called zonal will kick off this weekend with thrilling and exciting encounters.
As part of the opening games, Serrekunda East will rub shoulders with Serrekunda West in the all-Serrekunda derby at the Serrekunda East Mini Stadium in group A on Sunday.
Serrekunda East is a household name in the Super Nawetan and have won the championship on several occasions, and will be hoping for a win in order to keep their chance of reaching the quarterfinal, following their early exit in last year’s competition.
East Bi also have an edge over their opponents in the previous nawetan competitions.
Serrekunda West are yet to win the competition as they lost to Sukuta in the final by 2-1 in 2005.
Serrekunda West will also be expecting a victory to stand a better chance of making it to the quarterfinal following their dismal campaign last season.
Brikama will host last year’s runners-up Sukuta in another tricky game in group B at the Brikama Mini Stadium.
Brikama will be hoping for a revenge following their 1-0 defeat to Sukuta last season, which resulted in their early exit in the competition.
Sukuta, on the other hand, beat Brikama 1-0 in the second game of last year’s edition and will fight tooth and nail to secure a victory against Brikama.
On Tuesday 4 December 2012, Banjul will clash with defending champions Lamin in group A at the Banjul Mini Stadium.
The city boys will be hoping for a revenge following their 2-1 defeat to Lamin in the semifinal last year.
Manjai will play against Barra, Essau and Mayamba in group A at the Serrekunda West Mini Stadium on the same day.
