Gamtel lose to Khouribga in CAF Champions league preliminaries

Gambia’s champions Gamtel on Friday lost to Moroccan premier league side Club Olympique De Khouribga in the first leg of the 2016 CAF African champions league preliminaries.

Club Olympique De Khouribga are struggling in the Moroccan domestic league prior to their continent elite football competitionpreliminary qualifiers against Gambia’s league champions with 13 points in seventeen league matches.

Gamtel are occupying seventh in the Gambian top flight with 11 points in nine league matches with a game in hand against bottom side Serrekunda United prior to their crunch continental top tier football competition tie against the Moroccan premier league side.

Gamtel opened the score through captain Modou Sarr in the first half and went to break with a one-nil advantage, which eventually proved to be a consolation for the Gambian league champions.

The Moroccan premier leagues re-acted quickly, leveled the scores immediately after the interval, and snatched the winner midway into the second half to grab a hard fought win over the Gambian champions league

Gamtel responded back for an equalizer but could not break through Club Olympique De Khouribga’s formidable defence thus the game ended 1-0 in favour of the Moroccan premier league side.

Gamtel need to beat Club Olympique De Khouribga 1-0 in the return leg to progress to the second round but a draw will see them out and the Moroccan premier league side through to the second round.

The Moroccan premier league side need just a draw to advance to the second round following their slender 2-1 win over the Gambian league champions, but a 1-0 defeat to Gamtel will see them out and the telecommunication giants through to the second round.
