Telecommunication giants Gamtel FC on Sunday hammered Horoya FC of Guinea Conakry 3-0 in the first leg of the third round of the WAFU Club Championship played at the Independence Stadium in Bakau.
Gamtel FC took the lead in the 6th minute of the game through striker Assan Ceesay from a penalty spot when he was brought down inside the eighteen-yard box by goalkeeper Yamousa Koba Camara.
Six minutes later, Ali Sowe had a chance to double the lead for Gamtel FC but he blasted his shot over the cross bar.
Henry Camara should have capitalised on Ali Sowe and Ebou Taal’s missed communication to level the score-line for Horoya FC in the 25th minute of the game but his effort deflected on defender Modou Ndow and went for a corner kick.
Modou Sarr made it 2-0 for the home side in the 35th minute of the game from a brilliant header after capitalising on Ali Sowe’s cross to give his side a 2-0 lead at half time.
As action resumed in the second period of the game, Assan Ceesay netted in an early 3rd minute goal for Gamtel FC from a classic finish to register his name twice on the score-sheet for Gamtel FC when Modou Sarr sensibly chest the ball for him inside the six-yard area but he missed a golden opportunity in the 62nd minute of the game to register a hat-trick on his name.
Horoya FC later took control of the game and mounted pressure on Gamtel FC’s defence line but the home side were able to hold on their 3-0 lead for the rest of the game.
The best chance of the game for Horoya FC came in the 76th minute of the game when substitute Pepe Guilogui struck the stand bar for his side from a powerful shot.
