The National GSM operator Gamcel yesterday presented 200 bags of 25kg sugar and a cash of D30,000 to the Gambia Supreme Islamic Council (SIC) at a ceremony held at their headquarters in Kanifing.
The donation was meant for onward distribution by the SIC to the poor and needy across the country.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Kebba Bojang, a senior manager, customer care and sales, said this was not the first time Gamcel was making this gesture.
He commended the president of the SIC, Imam Momodou Lamin Touray, for always responding to their call.
The donation, he said, is part of the company’s willingness to share with the people, and that the gesture will go a long way to showing that Gamcel and Gamtel are national companies.
Ramou Nyassi a senior marketing manager, underscored the importance Gamcel attaches to its services, especially during the holy month of Ramadan.
“It is a tradition to share what we have with the needy people through the right channels,” she stated.
According to her, they have been collaborating with the SIC in the past in so many ways, noting that this signifies how committed the council is.
SIC president Alhaji Momodou Lamin Touray highlighted the importance of sharing, and commended the donors for their continuing support to the citizens of the country.
He assured them that they will do everything possible to make sure the donated item reach the beneficiaries.
Other speakers included Sheriff Malick Badjan and Baba Drammeh of the council, who both thanked and prayed for the progress of Gamcel.
