Gambian Athlete set for Ecowas games in Abuja

Gambian athlete Abdoulie Darboe is looking set to represent the Gambia Athletics Association in the forthcoming Ecowas Athletics Championship, in Abuja, Nigeria, slated from 3rd-13th September 2010, Pointsport gathered yesterday.

The two-week Ecowas games, according to the 800m distance-runner Darboe, who was chosen by the GAA during the athletics trial at the Independence Stadium, will be funded by the government of the Republic of The Gambia.

The Abuja championship is also expected to be followed by another athletics competition, called Commonwealth Games, to be held in India from 6th-12th October 2010, where Darboe is also selected to represent the country.

Darboe it could be recalled took part in a series of athletics championships in countries, such as Guinea Bissau, Mali, Ivory Coast and Dakar, respectively with great results to be optimistic about.

He is of the belief that he can raise the standards of athletics when these events take centre stage in Nigeria and India, respectively.
