Mariama T Jallow, a Gambian athlete, will represent the country in the 2009 'Race for Life', an event to be held at Watford on the 28th July 2009.

Mariama who emerged winner of the 8 km race in last year's Brufut Marathon Run, is registered to take part in the 10-kilometre category, revealed Mamodou Max Jallow, a sports journalist currently based in the UK.

Mariama is said to have received her race number and invitation letter to participate as well as guidelines for the event.

According to Mamodou Max Jallow, Mariama is registered to raise funds to support Brufut Marathon Run Association, a charitable organisation, and part of the funds would be donated to 'Cancer Research UK'.

He said, "It's part of the development of Brufut Marathon Run Association to register the first Male and Female who came out first during its annual year marathon to participate in UK long distance runs"

"The event is a female race organized all over UK. The Watford event is aimed to raise £34,500.00 (Thirty Four Thousand Five Hundred Pounds). However, any amount Mariama raises towards this amount would be very significant. Indeed Gambians and non-Gambians would be welcome to sponsor her with any amount they wish".

He pointed out that Ansu Sowe, who won the male category during last year's BMRA run, is also expected to participate in a half Marathon.
