The Gambia's 400 and 800 meter-runner Momodou Lamin Kujabi, yesterday left Banjul for Italy to take part in the World Junior Championship, billed from 8-13 July 2009 in Bressanone.

He is part of six Gambian athletes that booked their tickets in the World Junior Championship. But due to financial constraints, the remaining five runners' dream of making it in this year's championship could not come through.

Kujabi whose participation in the world event was made possible through the IAAF is accompanied by Coach Abdoulie Bamba Njie.

He is described by the GAA's Secretary-General Dodou Joof as a good athlete who has almost won all the sub-regional competitions he partook during last year.

He was a finalist in the last Commonwealth Games Championship in Pune, India.

Capi Joof is optimistic that Kujabi will raise the Gambian flag high in Italy.

Fatou Sowe, Abdoulie Assim (100 metre-runner); Ousman Gibba, Omar Ceesay (200 metre-runner); and Kemo Colley (400 metre-runner) are the other five athletes that could not make it to the championship.
