The Gambia Senior National Volleyball team under the guidance of Cuban coacheslast week began an intensive preparatory effort, ahead of the forthcoming Zone II Volleyball Tournament, to be hosted by Senegal from May 5th to 13th 2010. At the moment the team is training at the Gambia Senior Secondary School playing ground, the President of the association, Musa Casa Taal reliably informed Pointsport yesterday afternoon.
"The team have begun training programme with the help of Cuban coaches, who arrived in the country to take care of volleyball," Taal told Pointsport.
The event is also part of the implementation of Zone II programme of activities, which was worked out during the General Assembly of Guinea Conakry.
Dakar will host the Zone II indoor volleyball tournament which includes both male and female categories, which is being considered as a zonal qualification tournament for the participation of the forthcoming African championship of nations, according to the information on the letter sent to all Presidents of National Volleyball Associations of Zone II countries.
This, Taal added, is part of the Ministry of Youth and Sport's slogan, achieving "excellence in sports".
However, he is hopeful that with the help of the Cuban coaches volleyball would certainly catch up with other leading sporting events in the country.
