Gambia Volleyball Federation honored at CAVB Congress

The Gambia Volleyball Federation has been awarded by the Confederation of African Volleyball CAVB among the best Emerging National Federations in Africa and also among the best two in Zone II at an event held in the Algerian capital of Algiers during the CAVB ordinary congress last Thursday.

The president of Gambia Volleyball Federation Yunusa Barry received the award with pride. This historic accolade came on the backdrop of GVBF tremendous achievements in 2015.

Recently, the Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) acknowledged the Gambia volleyball federation in the implementation of the African Dream Project Africa.The project is aimed at having a common programme mainly focusing on volleyball at school.

Under the project, centres are being set up that would be used to develop identified athletes at young age and arranging all the keys for their involvement later on to their corresponding youth national teams.The project is the brainchild of the president of FIVB, Dr Ary S. Graca.

The Volleyball Federation has also participated in a record 6 international events in 9 months where 2 gold, 1bronze and 3 silver medals were won.

The female team won gold at the sub-zonal Rio qualifiers and recently in Abidjan and a bronze at the All Africa Games Qualifiers.The men won silver at the sub-zonal, AAG qualifiers and the continental cup in Abidjan.

The Gambia has also hosted FIVB level II coaching course for the first time in The Gambia and a successful maiden beach volleyball championship was staged.
