The Gambia Under-23 team defeated Serrekunda East Zonal Selection 2-0 in Friday’s friendly game played at the Serrekunda East Mini-stadium.

The game was part of Serrekunda East’s preparation for the forthcoming Baby Muhammed Yahya Jammeh Perpetual Zonal Competition.

The Gambia U-23 side also used the game to prepare for this year’s Olympic qualifiers in Benin in March.

Football fans from Serrekunda East and beyond witnessed the entertaining encounter, which saw strong Serrekunda East possessing most of the balls in the first half.

The Gambia Under-23 team, who were more experienced, opened the scoring through Abdou Jammeh in the 54th minute of the game from a brilliant finisher after capitalising on Lamin Sarjo Samateh’s sensible pass.

Samateh, who came in as a substitute, made it 2-0 for the Gambia Under-23 team in the 83rd minute from a wonderful strike when Pascal Njie set him up.
