The Gambia U-20 team will host Senegal U-20 team in the all-Senegambia derby international friendly game slated for tomorrow, Saturday 12 April 2014, at the Independence Stadium in Bakau.

The Gambia U-20 team under the guidance of head coach Tapha Manneh defeated Liberia U-20 team 1-0 in the first leg of the 2015 Africa U-20 Youth Championship Qualifiers played in Monrovia at the weekend and will use Saturday’s international friendly against Senegal U-20 team to keep themselves fit for the 2015 Africa U-20 Youth Championship Qualifiers second leg tie against Liberia U-20 team in Banjul on 26 April 2014.

The Gambia qualified for the Africa U-20 Youth championship twice in 2007, hosted in Congo Brazzaville where they won bronze medal after beating Zambia 3-1 in the third place-off but were eliminated in the second round of the FIFA U-20 World Cup hosted in Canada in 2007.

The Gambia failed to qualify for the 2009 and 2011 Africa U-20 Youth championship after losing to Ghana U-20 team 3-1 and Morocco U-20 4-0 in the qualifiers.

Senegal U-20 team will also use the international friendly to prepare morally and physically for the 2015 Africa U-20 Youth championship. Senegal will be hosting the 2015 Africa U-20 Youth Championship from 8 to 22 March 2015.

Senegal qualified for the Africa U-20 Youth championship once in 2011 hosted in South Africa but were eliminated in the group stage.
