The Gambia U-20 are this morning expected to leave Banjul for Makeni ahead of their 2017 African U-20 Youth Championship qualifiers away to Sierra Leone on Saturday 2 April 2016.
The Darling Scorpions under the guidance of Coach Omar K. Ceesay will be hot to spank the Shooting Stars in the first leg in Makeni on Saturday and finish the job in the return fixtures in Banjul in a fortnight to progress to the second round.
The Gambia were kicked out of the 2014 African U-20 Youth championship after being found guilty of fielding five overage players against Liberia in the qualifier on 6 April 204, in Monrovia.
The Gambia beat Liberia 1-0 courtesy of former Commit FC and Brikama United talisman Bakary Daffeh in the first half from Bubacarr ‘Steve’ Trawally’s brilliant past to fire home the winner for the Darling Scorpions.
The Gambia booted Sierra Leone out of the 2011 African U-20 Youth championship after beating them 5-1 on aggregate before thumping Ivory Coast 2-0 on aggregate in the qualifiers to progress to the 2011 African U-20 Youth championship hosted in South Africa before being eliminated in the group stage following a dismal performance.
