Gambia set to stage Sub-regional Wrestling Competition

The Gambia Wresting Association, in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the National Organising Committee  of the July 22nd  Celebrations, is set to stage a Sub-regional Traditional Wrestling Competition, as part of the 17th Anniversary of the July 22nd Celebrations this year, Pointsport can confirm.

The event is due to take place on Friday and Saturday at the Serekunda East Mini-stadium.

Speaking in an interview with Pointsport yesterday, Mamudou Max Jallow, executive secretary of the National Sports Council (NSC), said the aim of the event is to promote traditional wrestling in Africa as well as to integrate youths of the sub-region.

He revealed that the Nigerian wrestling team, headed by Olu Femi, arrived in the country yesterday with Senegal to follow today.

The NSC executive secretary also revealed that the entrance fee is D50 for adults and D25 for children.

“The event is expected to be graced by high-profile dignitaries,” Max told Pointsport.
