The new Gambia is highly sensitive to the rights of citizen but drug-induced criminal activities like armed robbery, rape and theft would not be condoned, the minister of the Interior has said.

Mai Fatty said the Ministry of the Interior is alert and has successfully seized large amount of drugs in the first quarter of 2017.

“Combating drugs is one of the most difficult jobs one can embark on as the number of drug users and traffickers is on the increase and this has put drug enforcers on the watch at all times,” he said.

“The discovery and interdiction of these huge quantities of drugs is evident of the determined efforts of DLEAG in fulfilling its mandate as enshrined in the Drug Control Act, 2003.”

The minister said all the drugs being burnt had been seized and kept under the watchful eye of the narcotic courts.

“This government through the Ministry of the Interior will make sure The Gambia becomes a nation free from drug trafficking,” Mr Fatty said.
