The Gambia were held to a 1-all draw at home by Namibia in the first leg of the FIFA World Cup preliminary qualifier last Friday.

The Scorpions had to come from a goal down against a determined Namibia side to avoid a home defeat.

Namibia took the lead through midfielder Willy Stephanus in the 61st minute of the game from an excellent free-kick after striker Benson Shilongo was brought down outside the eighteen-yard box.

Midfielder Demba Savage came to the rescue of the home side in the 78th minute to earn The Gambia a point going into Tuesday’s encounter.

Namibia will now host The Gambia in the second leg on Tuesday 13 October 2015 with the brave warriors needing only a goalless draw to sail to the second round of the qualifiers against Guinea Conakry in November 2015.

The Gambia need a 2-2 draw or a win against Namibia in the second leg on Tuesday to advance to the second round against Guinea Conakry in November 2015, but a defeat against Namibia in the second leg will see them out and Namibia through.
