The Gambia National Female team has been drawn in a tough group in their debut appearance in the West African Football Union tournament, slated for late July in Nigeria.

In the draw held yesterday, The Gambia has been pitted in group A along side the host Nigeria, Guinea and neighbouring Senegal.

Ghana, Sierra Leone, Mali and Tanzanian make up Group B.

Reacting to the draw, Seedy MB Kinteh, the President of the Gambia Football Association told Pointsport that, despite making its debut appearance in Nigeria, the female national team will be going all out to raise the Gambian flag.

"Our target this year is to participate and go in for the trophy next time. But we will do all what it takes to avoid any embarrassment as other countries will see us as underdog," the GFA boss stated.

The first-ever female national team has been engaged in an intensive training campaign over the past period time. The team's recent 6-0 win over a Ziguinzor selection in Cassamance, Senegal in an international friendly is an added boost that can help fuel its campaign for the 2009 West African Tournament, set to kick start in a week's time.
