Gambia Deaf Scorpions set for 6th WADFT

The Gambia Deaf Scorpions football team is set to take part in the 6th edition of the West African Deaf Football tournament to be held from 24 June to 8 July 2016 in Accra, Ghana.

According to the President of the Gambia Deaf Sports Association, the Government of Ghana through Ghana National Sports Authority; Ghana Paralympic Committee with the Economical Support of ECOWAS/Youth and Sports Development Centre EYSDC, has invited them to take part in the tournament to be held at Accra Sports Stadium.

The tournament, Lamin Ceesay added, is organised to bring unity in a keen healthy football competition among member states of ECOWAS.

“This is the 6th ECOWAS Programme for Deaf Sports Association within its respective regions with the aim of building unity, strength and progress in football for Deaf Sports Associations,” he added.

“The Ghana Ministry of Youth and Sports wishes on behalf of the Government of Ghana to extend warm compliments to the West African Deaf Football Association and has officially informed us that Ghana has decided to formally accept to host the West African Deaf Football Tournament and they are more than convinced that Ghana has the requisite experience and capacity to upscale the level of the tournament,” he said.

He added: “The Ghana government letter of acceptance hosting of 6th edition of West Africa Deaf Football tournament sent to us here was approved and signed by Hon. Vincent Oppong Asamoah (MP), Deputy Minister of Ghana Ministry of Youth and Sports. “According to West Africa Deaf Sports Union, the condition of participation: all the countries invited must confirm their interest to participate on or before 30 May 2016, only the first 8 countries that confirm their interest to participate will be considered. There is (A) nonrefundable affiliation fee- $100 and (B) Participation/registration fee - $150.

“Once again, our accompany officers would include referees, physicians, and government delegates. The document also clearly indicates that WASU will be responsible for officiating allowance of referees during the match only.

“Each participating country must come along with two national flags of which we the Deaf Scorpions FC want to receive from our Beloved President H.E. Sheikh Prof, Alhagie Dr Yahya A.J.J. Jammeh.

“In this regard, The Gambia Deaf Scorpions FC is seeking financial support from all the stakeholder institutions, Ministry of Youth and Sports, Gambia Football Federation, Gambia National Olympic Committee, Office of the President through the ultimate efforts of our beloved President Jammeh. “The association is able to cover its delegates allowance, registration fee, nonrefundable affiliate fee, jerseys and participation fee, etc.

“So we only need your support to cover our delegate’s air ticket and accommodation.
