Gambega Limited, the authorised bottler of the Coca-Cola Company yesterday presented a cheque for D60, 650 to Gambia Secondary School Sports Association (GSSSA) for inter-schools football and volley ball competitions, at the Independence Stadium Conference Hall.
The project was geared towards facilitating the growth of grassroots football in the country.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, the Director of Youth and Sports, Malang Jassey, applauded Coca-Cola Company for the tremendous support rendered towards uplifting sports in the country, noting that through school talents there would be great development through reliable partnership which will go a long way towards trying to discover talents.
He challenged the Coca-Cola Company to maintain the partnership with GSSSA, in a bid to develop grassroots sports, particularly football in the country.
The President of the Gambia Secondary School Sports Association (GSSSA), Martin Gomez, who also spoke on the presentation, said his association has been looking forward to secure such initiative.
Gomez further used the opportunity to hail Trust Bank Limited for setting up a partnership with his association, while commending the Coca-Cola Company for their timely intervention.
"Supporting grassroots sports is a genuine initiative and indeed a good step in the right direction," Gomez added.
In the same vein, the Ministry of Youth and Sports donated fifty (50) balls to Gambia Secondary School Sports Association, as part of their contribution.
The Human Resource Manager of Coca-Cola Company, Saja Sambou, expressed delight at the partnership.
According to Sambou, the Coca-Cola Company has been supporting football all around the world, which is part of its social responsibility in sports development.
