The Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) on 4 May 2013 beat the Gambia Immigration Department (GID) by a goal to nil to be crowned Super Cup champions of the 2013 National Inter-departmental Sports Association (NISA) in a keenly contested final.
Matar Ceesay scored the only goal of the game played at the Serrekunda West Mini Stadium for GAF in the 14th minute of the game.
As winner, the Gambia Armed Forces went home with a giant trophy.
The kickoff of the final was taken by Hon. Ousman Sonko, Minister of Interior.
Speaking to reporters shortly after the game, Ebrima Jatta, head coach of GAF, said his side winning the Super Cup final was down to determination and hard work, adding that his side was also playing safety during the game.
Jatta said he was however failed by NISA who denied his right to make a fifth substitution during the game, adding that in the NISA constitution it is stated that a team is allowed to make five changes during a game but when he wanted to make a fifth change in the final minutes of the game he was told he could only make four changes.
This was why his side was under pressure in the final minutes of the game, he reasoned.
Buba Jallow, head coach of the Gambia Immigration Department, said his boys played very well during the game but were just unlucky to score a goal.
He also said they however did not give much attention to the game since they only had a single team and have another final (combined services) to play, “which is more important” to them.
Meanwhile, the 11th Edition of the NISA competition proper is expected to get underway on 10 May 2013.
