Fakebba Jabang has taken GACEM Ltd to the Kanifing Industrial Tribunal chaired by Magistrate Dayoh Small Dago, claiming D500,000 and cost  for wrongful termination of his services by the defendant.

In his recent testimony at the court, Fakeba Jabang told the tribunal that he lives in Manjai Kunda and had been working with GAMCEM since 1992, as chief security of the company.

He stated that in 2008, he was promoted to a foreman in the production department and worked as a chief clerk until March 2009.

He adduced that he was later promoted to a supervisor and he had received several increments in salary due to his performance in the company.

"Since 1992 there was change in management leading to the last management which terminated my employment on 1 February 2011," the plaintiff revealed.

"I wrote to the labour department to investigate the matter, of which the company was called three times for a meeting but they failed to honour the invitation," Jabang explained.

He indicated that he had no other option than to bring the matter to court for a legal verdict, but the defendant failed to appear in court on three occasions.

The chairman of the tribunal said that he had noticed on the file that on few occasions, neither the defendant’s representative nor their counsel was present in court for which no reasons were given.

He further indicated that the tribunal would adjourn the matter for the last time. The case was subsequently adjourned till 7 February 2011.
