Fraudster convicted

A man called Abib Faal was recently convicted and sentenced to a fine of D7,000 in default to serve one year in prison.

Faal, who was found guilty of obtaining money by false pretence, was also ordered to pay a compensation of D20, 000 in default to serve two years in prison.

Both sentences are to run consecutively.

The case was presided over by Magistrate Tabally of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court.

The charge sheet read in court stated that Abib Faal, in the year 2012 at Serrekunda in the Kanifing Municipality, by false pretence and with intent to defraud, obtained from one Mansa Mballow the sum of D27,000 with the pretext that he was going to buy an air ticket for him, which representation was false and he knew it to be false.
