The National Drug Enforcement Agency (NDEA) has confirmed the arrest of four of its officers by the police for allegedly torturing one Cherno Alieu Suwareh, leading to his death.
They are Eco Grant, Ebou Lowe, Abdoulie E. Jallow and Mattar Sey Jawo.
Confirming the story yesterday, NDEA public relations officer ASP Abdoulie Ceesay said the four officers were called by the police on Thursday in connection with the alleged torture of one Cherno Alieu Suwareh, who was detained in their custody.
"The allegation is that the detainee, who was kept in our custody, was reported to have died as a result of the beating by the four suspects. As such, the matter is under investigation and we could not comment on anything unless when the investigation is completed," PRO Ceesay told our reporter.
"As at now, we cannot say anything apart from the fact that they have been called by the police to answer to the allegation of beating one of our detainees, as a result of which he died," he said, adding that the matter is under investigation and the suspects are in police custody, pending the outcome of the investigation.
