Dalema
Foundation, an organisation for orphans, was recently launched at a hotel in
Kololi.
The
launching, on the theme, ‘Supporting the growth and development of orphan
children in The Gambia’, was attended by senior officials from government and
non-governmental organisations.
Founders
said the organisation is established to protect underprivileged children from
injustices, inequality and discrimination.
In
his launching statement, Njundu Drammeh, national coordinator of Child
Protection Alliance (CPA), said the establishment of the foundation “is very
crucial putting into consideration that the extended families do not support
each other”.
Ekun
Dayoh M.S. Dago, president and founder of Dalema Foundation, said the rationale
behind setting up the foundation is to support the development and growth of
orphan children.
He
said the foundation also seeks to advance cultural values and lobby for gender
equality in The Gambia through public education and advocacy.
“We
intend to achieve this goal through sensitisation, partnership and networking
within The Gambia and beyond,” the founder said.
