State prosecutors yesterday filed two more counts against former Magistrate Saikou Fatty, at the Bundung Magistrates’ Court before Principal Magistrate Abeke.

The previous charge sheet filed against the accused person claimed official corruption in both counts, but two more charges were added: receiving money to grant favour and abuse of office.

When the case was called, state counsel M. Jobe said they had filed an amended charge sheet on 18 December on four counts against the accused.

She applied to substitute it with the amended charge sheet, which was granted without any objection from defence counsel L.S. Camara.

The case was adjourned till 6 January 2015, to proceed with prosecution witness one.

State prosecutors in count one accused former Magistrate Saikou Fatty, that on 6 March 2014 at Bundung in the Kanifing Municipality, whilst serving as a magistrate and in furtherance of his duty, corruptly solicited D20,000 and a gold wristwatch for himself from a defendant in a matter before court titled Chimezia Julius versus Patricia Fangawa, under the pretext of settling the matter out of court, and thereby committed an offence.

Former Magistrate Saikou Fatty was further accused in count two, that he corruptly solicited the D20,000 and gold wristwatch.

In count three, Magistrate Fatty was accused that on 6 March 2014, while serving as a magistrate, received D20,000 and a gold wristwatch in order to grant favour, and thereby committed an offence.

Magistrate Saikou Fatty was again accused in count four, that on 6 March 2014 he used his position as a magistrate to receive D20,000 and a gold wristwatch, on the pretext that the matter at court would be solved out of court, and thereby committed an offence.
