Former GFA Protocol Officer dies

The Gambia Football Association (GFA) is mourning the death of its former protocol officer and chairman of the GFA Women’s Football Committee, Sainey Jammeh, who passed away at his Bundung residence on Saturday.

The FA has issued a press release to inform the entire football fraternity including the head of state of The Gambia about the sudden demise of their colleague.

The following is the full text of the press release sent to this paper at the weekend:

The Executive Committee of The Gambia Football Association under the leadership of  Seedy Buwa Kinteh, the staff and all the affiliated clubs of the Gambia Football Association (GFA) regret to announce the untimely demise of Mr Sainey Jammeh, former protocol officer and chairman of the GFA Women’s Football Committee.

This sad event occurred on Saturday 8th October 2011 at his former residence in Bundung.

The news is extended to His Excellency the President of the Republic of The Gambia, Dr Alhagie Yahya A.J.J. Jammeh, the  Minister of Youth and Sports, Sheriff M.L. Gomez, Alhagie O.B. Conateh and family, Alhagie Gabbi Sosseh and family, all the Governors and Mayors of The Gambia, the President of the National Olympic Committee and the football fraternity.

The late Sainey Jammeh was buried on Saturday 8 October 2011 at 5.pm. May his soul rest in perfect peace.

Editor’s note: The entire management and staff of The Point newspaper would like to join the GFA in expressing their condolence for the demise of their colleague and friend, Mr Sainey Jammeh, whose contribution to the development and promotion of sport, particularly football, is beyond measure.

His untimely departure will no doubt leave a huge vacuum in Gambian sport, especially in the female football.
