Former Chief of Defence Staff Lieutenant General Ousman Badgie has thanked the Almighty Allah, President Adama Barrow and his cabinet, the Gambia armed forces hierarchy, senior management and every GAF staff, sister security services and the entire Gambian population for giving them the conducive environment to operate.
Bargie
made these remarks on Monday while handing over to new CDS Masanneh Kinteh.
“I
am leaving, but once a soldier and always a soldier,” he stated.
Bargie
appealed to the soldiers to work closely with their brother (the new CDS) who
is not new to the system as he previously handled the post, saying he is happy
for Kinteh; that he is back to the position he previously handled.
He
went on to thank President Barrow for giving him the opportunity to serve in a
different capacity, “all towards national development”.
Bargie
further stated: “Even if I am made a watchman under President Barrow, I will
happily serve him in the interest of The Gambia.”
He
also called on soldiers and everyone “to stick to the constitution and to not
move an inch beyond where it asks us to stop, come rain, come sunshine.
“Do
not look for money, fame or anything else,” he urged the soldiers, while
calling on them to fear Allah in their work, and he would see them through.
He
concluded by thanking President Barrow, for ensuring “we are better today than
we were previously”.
