Another twist to the never ending intriguing episodes in the GFA Normalisation process surfaced this week when world football governing body Fifa ruled that the December 8 adoptive congress was illegitimate, and called on the Normalization Committee to organize another one.
This followed a two-month period of suspense as the nation awaits Fifa’s response to the December congress where the new and controversial proposals were rejected by the majority of delegates.
Now though FIFA had stated that it has noted that some of the clubs who participated in that adoptive congress and rejected the amendments drafted in collaboration with Fifa and Caf had no real legitimacy to be represented in the congress, (an apparent reference to the 28 regional clubs who claimed they are bonafide members of the GFA.)
In a statement released after a meeting on the issue on February 13, Fifa said: “Under these circumstances and taking into account the wish of the Normalization Committee, the Fifa member association committee decided to ask the Normalization committee to interpret the GFA statutes in a way as to ensure that only clubs which had played regularly in the GFA competition can participate in the GFA general assembly and thus be part of any statutes revision of electoral process.”
Fifa again went on: “It is a basic principle of football administration that only the real football stakeholder may be a member of a Member association.”
The new development now means that another adoptive congress will have to be held, this time without the 28 regional league clubs.
Once that is done and the new proposal passed the Normalization Committee is then mandated to put in the structures envisaged there in and prepare for adoptive congress.
It almost certainly means that the March 30 elective congress will not be possible as it will come too soon for the new development to reach climax.
