(KAHA) at the weekend embarked on a massive cleansing exercise at the village.

In collaboration with Alkalo Aja Fatou Sowe and the village development committee of Farato, the youth cleansed the Farato market, health clinic and the major streets in the village.

The villagers said the exercise is in response to the Gambian leader, President Jammeh’s call for environmental cleanliness.

Speaking on the occasion, Alkalo Aja Fatou Sowe commended Farato International Peace Festival Youth Association and Karmic Angels and House of Action for their active participation in the development of Farato.

She noted that the two youth organisations are “very committed and development oriented”.

The alkalo said the cleaning is in line with President Jammeh’s call for national cleansing.

Madam Sowe said because of the cleansing, most of the streets in Farato are well cleaned now, no breeding ground for mosquitoes and that has reduced the number of patients going to the health centre with symptoms of malaria.

Wuyeh Fatty, a youth leader in Farato, said since the youth are the future of the country, their participation in national development is key and Farato youth are not an exception.

He said Farato youth enjoy close collaboration with the alkalo of the village.  He also commended the youth for turning out en mass for the cleansing exercise.

Ebrima Jarsey of Farato council of elders hailed the youth for their participation in the cleansing exercise, saying it was a sign of peace, solidarity, unification and collaboration in the village.
