Farato
International Peace Festival Youth Association in collaboration with Karmic
Angels and House of Action
(KAHA)
at the weekend embarked on a massive cleansing exercise at the village.
In
collaboration with Alkalo Aja Fatou Sowe and the village development committee
of Farato, the youth cleansed the Farato market, health clinic and the major
streets in the village.
The
villagers said the exercise is in response to the Gambian leader, President
Jammeh’s call for environmental cleanliness.
Speaking
on the occasion, Alkalo Aja Fatou Sowe commended Farato International Peace
Festival Youth Association and Karmic Angels and House of Action for their
active participation in the development of Farato.
She
noted that the two youth organisations are “very committed and development
oriented”.
The
alkalo said the cleaning is in line with President Jammeh’s call for national
cleansing.
Madam
Sowe said because of the cleansing, most of the streets in Farato are well
cleaned now, no breeding ground for mosquitoes and that has reduced the number
of patients going to the health centre with symptoms of malaria.
Wuyeh
Fatty, a youth leader in Farato, said since the youth are the future of the
country, their participation in national development is key and Farato youth
are not an exception.
He
said Farato youth enjoy close collaboration with the alkalo of the
village. He also commended the youth for
turning out en mass for the cleansing exercise.
Ebrima
Jarsey of Farato council of elders hailed the youth for their participation in
the cleansing exercise, saying it was a sign of peace, solidarity, unification
and collaboration in the village.
