The consultative meeting held in Kerewan, North Bank Region, aimed to build greater understanding among buyer and farmers to complement school-feeding programme.
Nfamara Conteh of MDG 1C project office noted that the convergence would create platform for different actors to discuss crop production intensification and used the moment to call on farmers to register with WFP regional office to support home-grown production to supplement school-feeding programme.
Alieu Loum of MDG 1C said farmers play an important role in boosting food production, and building farmers’ capacity on marketing would enhance income and contribute to poverty reduction. Sana Cham of WFP called on farmers to be proactive to promote and strengthen home-grown production to enhance school-feeding programme. WFP officials called on farmers and buyers to agree on prices that would improve production and productivity.
Momodou S. Jallow, agricultural officer at Yallaltankonjala, thanked FAO and WFP in promoting food commercialization and diversification.
