Fajara United FC on Saturday were crowned champions of the 2009 veterans football tournament organised by Sheikh Ndure.They defeated Armed Forces 1-0 in a tightly contested encounter played at the cocktail playing ground in Bakau.
Thrilling encounters demonstrated a delightful exhibition of skills and panache, attracted a large turnout from Bakau and its surroundings.
Fajara United FC only goal in the game was scored by Ousman Drammeh alias Boka in the 44 minute , within the twinkle of an eye, he drilled home a spectacular 40 yard free kick to seal the victory for his side.
The champions Fajara United FC bagged a giant trophy and cash prize of D25, 000.00, whilst Armed Forces FC received D10, 000.00 as the runners-up, and consolation prize went to Pipeline FC, who received a cash prize of D5, 000.00.
The final was witnessed by high dignitaries. In a post match interview, the organizer of the tournament Pa Ndure, expressed satisfaction over the way the tournament was organised. Mr Ndure elucidated that the aim of the tournament is to strengthen the cordial relationship that exists between the veterans. Mr. further commended Hatib Janneh Junior for sponsoring the tournament.
