Peter Sanyang, a former military officer, was on 24 September 2010 remanded in custody by the Bundung Magistrates' Court pending the transfer of the case to the special criminal court at the high court in Banjul.

Sanyang was arraigned before Magistrate Fredrick Forster on a charge of robbery.

The prosecuting officer, 1st Class 3533 Jarju, in opposing bail for the accused person, told the court that the accused was a member of the armed forces, and that if granted bail he might abscond.

He, therefore, urged the trial magistrate to remand the accused in custody.

Peter Sanyang while applying for bail told the court that he was one time a member of the armed forces, and assured the court that he would not abscond, stating that if he absconds his family would suffer.

Subsequently, the trial magistrate granted the prosecution's application, and remanded him accordingly.

According to the charge sheet, in the month of September 2010 at Nema-Kunku Jola Kunda, Peter Sanyang with actual violence robbed one Jawara Drammeh of cash amounting to D950 and a double SIM card mobile phone valued at D1,500, being the property of the said Jawara Drammeh.
