Ex-Convicts Jailed

Ousman Nicol and Babucarr Ceesay who had been convicted by the Kanifing Magistrates' Court were on 27thNovember 2008 again convicted and sentenced to 18 months' imprisonment with hard labour.

They were sentenced on count one to one year imprisonment with hard labour and a six-month imprisonment on count two with hard labour.

Magistrate Abdoulie Mbackeh of the Kanifing Magistrates' Court handed down the sentences after the accused persons had pled guilty to the offences of burglary and stealing.

According to the particulars of offence on count one, on 23rdNovember 2008 at 78 Atlantic Road Bakau the accused persons jointly and unlawfully broke into the house of one Hally Mass with intent to commit a felony.

While on count two, the accused persons stole two bracelets valued at D3300, pairs of shoes valued at D4950, pairs of earring and fingerings, a wallet, an ATM card, personal documents and MP3 player valued at D3300.

In passing his sentences, Magistrate Mbackeh stated that the accused persons deserved some punishment to serve as a deterrent to others. He added that they had become nuisances to society.
