According
to official sources, Kebba S. Touray, former ambassador of The Gambia to
Morocco, has turned down an offer of appointment by outgoing president Yahya
Jammeh to be ambassador in the People’s Republic of China to replace Dembo
Badjie, who was among the 12 ambassadors to recognize President-elect Adama
Barrow.
In
the letter he replied to the foreign ministry on Thursday he said he turned
down the offer because of personal reasons.
Touray
has a wealth of experience in diplomacy and governance. He was first appointed
ambassador to Spain then Morocco. He was recalled last October and later
terminated in the service.
He
served in the Cabinet as Minister of Trade and Minister of Finance, before
being appointed ambassador to
Morocco.
