The European Union will this morning sign a financing agreement with the Gambia government for the “Governance Programme in The Gambia”, providing funding, in the form of a 10 million Euro grant, to support improving democratic and economic governance in The Gambia.

The new governance programme, among others, seeks to improve access to legal services/remedial justice, especially for vulnerable groups; improve legal education, training and research skills; improve information and management of cases.

It also seeks to improve the legal and regulatory framework, as well as capacities of media professionals; to improve efficiency and effectiveness of revenue administration, strengthen the budget formulation process and linkages between policy, planning and budgeting; as well as improve budget execution efficiency and effectiveness.

“The Governance Programme will contribute to good governance through enhancing access to justice and legal education, and through enhancing capacities of professionals, as well as the legal and regulatory framework in the area of media and journalism, and by supporting crucial public financial management,” Mme Agnes Guillaud, Charge d’ Affaires of the European Union Delegation to The Gambia said.
