Below we reproduce the full text of Amir Trawally’s message:
Ramadan of the year 1432 Hijrah (2010 CE) has come to the end. Muslims all over the world will be rejoicing and extolling the praises of Allah Almighty for guiding them on the path of truth and his pleasure and mercy. This year’s Ramadan was spent in disorder and turmoil in some countries. The month that should have been spent in the remembrance of Allah the Almighty was unfortunately spent in bloodshed. Many innocent lives have been lost (including women and children).
The Muslim world should always ponder and act on the teachings of the Holy Qur’an and the Sunnah of the prophet Muhammad Mustafa (SAW) in order to prevent such situations. The Qur’anic teachings have embraced the responsibilities of both the rulers and the ruled. The rulers have been told that the power they possess is the trust of Allah the Almighty and that it must be justly executed. The rights of the citizenry must be protected. The protection of their persons and property becomes the responsibility of the ruler who is the head of state.
The ruled have also been clearly commanded to obey the authority. Allah the Almighty says in the Holy Qur’an: “O ye who believe! Obey Allah and obey the Messenger and those who are in authority among you. And if you differ in anything among yourselves, refer it to Allah and His messenger if you are believers in Allah and the last day. That is best and most commendable in the end” (Surah Nisa: Verse 60).
If these teachings are followed, the world shall always live in peace, order, stability and security. Let us remember that it is only the teachings of Islam that guarantees peace and order; no international treaty can afford the world the peace that it so much craves.
Let us remember the Muslim brothers in the Arab world, and of course other countries, who are going through much suffering that Allah the Almighty may grant their countries peace and order. As always, let us please not forget the orphans, and the poor and needy brothers and sisters. The Ramadan has come to make us steadfast on the paths of helping them.
Our environs cannot be secured from corruption and disorder, if the needy and the poor are neglected. Some of the contemporary global problems are caused by indifference to them. The month of Ramadan is a great institution of moral and spiritual verities. What has been learnt from the institution should not just be seasonal; it must always manifest itself in our lives in the next eleven months.

May He continue showering his limitless mercy, blessing, peace, stability, security, prosperity and progress on our dear and beloved motherland, The Gambia. Ameen.
