Adama Jatta, Serrekunda East zonal team coach, has said the reason his side is not scoring much goals as expected is because Serrekunda East Sports Development Organisation selected too many midfielders for him.

Adu Boy, as he is widely called, made this remark at the Serrekunda East Mini Stadium on Tuesday following his side’s first win of the Premier Games-sponsored Super Nawetan over Gunjur.

He stated that the Serrekunda East Committee selected 42 players for him, most of whom are midfield players.

His responsibility is to train the selected players, he added.

He has to manage with the players including 2 strikers, he said, adding that it is neither his fault nor his players’ for them not scoring many goals.

Jatta defended himself saying he had to screen the 42 players selected for him, including some strikers from Real De Banjul. They are however in camp, he added.

Serrekunda East crashing out of the group stage would be a ‘big shame’ as it never happened in the past, he said, adding that their victory over Gunjur would serve as a stepping stone for them.

Jatta said he and his players are under no pressure, as their goal is to achieve victory and success through sacrificing for the zone.

If fans and players criticize them as technicians it means they have to double their efforts and not necessarily because they are not doing their work effectively, he added.

BEM are not a small club and if they want to beat them in their next encounter, they have to respect the club as they did against Gunjur, he concluded.
