Ebrima Kanteh and Salifu Gaye were recently arraigned before Magistrate Drammeh of the Kaninfing Magistrates' Court, charged with attempting to commit felony to wit stealing, a charge both of them denied.
According to the charge sheet, on 6th May, 2010, at Old Jeshwang in Kanifing, the accused persons, Ebrima Kanteh and Salifu Gaye, unlawfully entered the shop of Zidan Karran with an attempt to commit felony to wit stealing therein.
In his testimony, PW1 Lamin Jobe, told the court that he is an employee of the said shop, and could recognise the accused persons.
He adduced that on 6th May 2010, he went out to perform ablution when he suddenly heard a noise in the shop.
According to him, he stopped the ablution and rushed to the shop and found the accused persons. Subsequently, he said they were apprehended.
Also testifying, Alagie Nur, PW2 said that he is a resident of Sunchu Alagie and he is a driver of the said shop. He said he could recognise the accused persons.
He adduced that on the day in question, he left his boss in the shop with the permission of going to buy cigarette in a near-by shop. He stated that on his way back to the shop he saw the accused entering the shop. He indicated that the duo approached the drawer of the shop where they often keep their money.
He further explained that the 2nd accused took some money and put it into his pocket, when he started shouting thief. He said immediately the accused returned the money into the drawer.
According to him, his co-workers who came to his aid apprehended the accused and took them to the Kanifing Police Station where their statements were recorded.
The trail magistrate subsequently adjourned the case to 18th June 2010 for continuation.
