Duo arraigned for assault

Sahire Ceesay and Hamidou Mustapha Fall were recently arraigned before Magistrate Kayode of the Kanifing Magistrates' Court, charged with assault causing actual bodily harm. Both of them have denied the charge.

Testifying before the court, Sheirk Njie, a police officer, told the court that he recognised the accused persons and that he could recall on 13thJanuary, 2010.

According to him, on the day in question he went to visit a friend when he met with the complainant, Dawda Ceesay, and asked him what the matter was.

Suddenly, he said the accused persons appeared and the 2nd accused, Hamidou Mustapha Fall, took a broken bottle and stabbed the complaint on his eye, while the 1st accused, Sahire Ceesay, used a big stick to hit the complainant.

He revealed that the complainant then rushed to seek refuge at a near-by compound, while he (the witness) ran to the Serrekunda Police Station to report the matter.

According to him, upon return to the scene with an escort from Serekunda Police Station they found out that the accused persons had already disappeared.

He added that later the 2nd accused was spotted and put under arrest to the station. He said he made statement to that effect.
