Driver In Court For Rash And Negligent Act

One Haruna Sey of Tujereng Village was on Thursday arraigned at the Brikama Magistrates' Court on a charge of rash and negligent act, a charge he denied.

According to the particulars of offence on or about 26th October 2009 between the hours of 9:30 and 10:30 at Tujereng Village, along Kombo South Coastal Highway, the accused drove a motor vehicle rashly and negligently, and thus collided with another vehicle, and as a result caused the death of Mahayana Joo, a 52-year-old Hungarian and Karamo Drammeh, 40, of Dippakunda.

At that juncture, the Police Prosecutor, Cadet ASP Samateh, applied for an adjournment as, according to him, he needed time to send the file to the AG Chambers for legal advice.

Magistrate Effime granted the application and adjourned the case to 16th November 2009 for hearing.

Meanwhile, the accused was granted a court bail in the sum of D50, 000.
