A driver called Momodou Gaye who was found guilty of a traffic offence recently, was convicted and sentenced to a fine of D1,500 in default to serve three months in prison by the Brikama Magistrate' Court.
Gaye was also ordered to compensate the complainant with D5,000 in default to serve another three months in prison.
Both sentences were to run concurrently.
The facts, as narrated by the prosecuting officer Sgt 413 Sanyang, stated that it happened on 11 April 2011 at Abuko.
He said the convicted person was driving a motor vehicle with registration number BJL 0268 B from Lamin village and, upon reaching Abuko, he made a u-turn.
He further narrated that at the time there was a motorbike BJL MC 8670 whose rider was one Ali K. Jatta, who was also coming from Lamin village.
Still narrating, he told the court that as a result of the u-turn, the motorbike hit the vehicle, adding that the matter was reported to Yundum Police Station.
He said the scene was visited and a sketch plan was constructed, adding that the victim was later taken to Banjulinding Health Centre where he was treated and discharged.
