Brikama
Fire Station Divisional Fire Officer Joseph Mendy has commended Avon Fire
Brigade UK for its continued support and partnership with the Gambia Fire and
Rescue Services (GFRS).
He
said the UK Fire Brigade has been “very supportive” over the years by donating
fire tenders and other equipment to GFRS.
In
an interview with GRTS at the Brikama Fire Station, Mr Mendy also explained
that the primary duty of GFRS is to save life, prevent properties from
destruction of fire and to render humanitarian services.
He
said at their level at Brikama Fire Station, they conduct weekly radio
programmes at Kaira FM and Brikama Community Radio to sensitise people on the
preventive measures and enlighten them about their roles and responsibilities. The fire station also does routine inspection
at the Brikama market.
Mendy
stressed the need for people to be cautious of electrical connections as well
as domestic fire outbreaks and adhere to the advice of fire service officers.
He
also commended the GFRS chief fire officer, Roger Bakurin, for his tremendous
efforts towards in the upliftment of the institution.
