Over thirty members of the Kanifng Municipal Council Disaster Management Committee last week conducted a two-day training of its members on the National Disaster Management Act.
According to the National Disaster Management Agency's focal person at KMC, Mrs. Binta Sey-Jadama, the purpose of the training was to acquaint members with the National Disaster Management Agency's act or policy.
Mrs. Jadama said the programme would also help committee members to know their mandate and limitation when it comes to disaster management.
"The act/policy would tell the committee members the chain of command when disaster occurred," she said, adding that the training comes at a right time.
In his presentation, Mr. Dawda Jallow from the National Council for Civic Education urged the Kanifing Municipal Council Disaster Management Committee members to work hand-in-glove if they want to achieve their goals in disaster management within the municipality.
During the training, the participants were taken through various topics, covering basic concepts and technologies, overview of the disaster management, disaster response strategy and chain of command during emergencies.
Other topics covered include roles and responsibilities of municipalities in the implementation of the act/policy, relationship between the NDMA, RDMA and WDC and roles and responsibilities of the governing council and NDMA.
