Demba Kunda Kurumba FC on 10 May 2011 defeated Gida Kantora FC by 2 goals to one to book a quarterfinal place in the Dynamic Sarahuleh Association for Changes and Development football tournament.
The game played at the Serrekunda East Mini-stadium where Saibou Jagana netted a brace for Demba Kunda Kurumba FC in the 13th and 64th minutes while Lakamin Touray scored Gida Kantora FC’s consolation goal in the 49th minute.
In the 3pm kick-off of the other game the same day, Sabie FC played a goalless draw with Kumbija FC. Kumbija FC, who saw a man sent off in the 16th minute when Momodou Gerew received his marching order for denying what looked like a clear scoring opportunity.
Speaking to reporters shortly after the game, Baba Jabbi, assistant coach of Demba Kunda Kurumba FC, said the game was interesting and well contested, adding that his players did well.
“The players are much motivated prior to the game and it paid off well,” he said.
Kalilu Touray, head coach of Gida Kantora, said his team played well but noted that luck was not on their side.
He also said that their striking force did not work well during the game due to the injuries of some key players.
He finally thanked the team management for their financial support as well as the fans for their tireless moral boost.
Saibou Jagana, the double goal scorer for Demba Kunda Kurumba, said he was very much happy for netting a brace which earned his team a qualification berth to the quarterfinal of the competition.
Saibou, with a total of 4 goals to his account, says he is confident he will finish top goal scorer at the end of the tournament.
